The image of the hobo is a mighty old tradition in American myth. An older fella with a bingle slung over his shoulder is as classic as Norman Rockwell’s imagination (see image).
I’ve always been a fan of travelin’ light, both on journeys and in life. Couple of modern guys are reviving the practice and writing about it. At Vagabonding, Justin Glow writes about an inspired traveler, Jonathan Yevin who, as an experiment, went on an extended journey through Central America with nothing but what he was wearing. I’ve been digging this article on the art of light travel, as well as Rolf Potts column for Yahoo! called Traveling Light. Excellent stuff!

Heady stuff. This is what real traveling is made of. Strip it down to its utterly bare essentials. I love it.
