Norway by Train

A TV station in Norway decided (brilliantly) that it would be fun to film the entire length of one of their most scenic train routes in HD. All 7.5 hours of the ride. The results are stunning and hypnotic. Reminds me a lot of the Norwegian film about a retiring train conductor, O’Horten, that I projected at Telluride a couple years ago. Avalanche Rescue as Seen from Helmet Cam

Wow. This is pretty rad/scary/wild. Kudos to this rescue team who got to their guy within minutes. What a terrifying few minutes they are, though!

Reminds me that ski season is coming up – something I never forget even though I’m stuck in the city these days! Boy, I hope to get out and do some deep powder this winter. But, don’t worry, Ma, I won’t get into this sort of mess. I hope.

MountainFilm in Telluride 2008

I had the great pleasure of heading to the mountains again this holiday weekend for a heaping serving of films that celebrate the ‘indomitable spirit‘ in adventure, culture, sports and environment. MountainFilm was celebrating it’s 30th year and it was my seventh. As always, it was excellent to spend time in Telluride, my old stomping grounds. Audrey got her first taste of the high and mighty San Juan Mountains, and I’m sure it won’t be her last. We had a great time.

Taos Open to Snowboarding!

Wow! This just made me daydream about a move to northern New Mexico all the more! Taos Ski Valley, one of the most beautiful ski resorts in America and one of the last hold-outs to the archaic view that snowboarders somehow make skiing suck is letting boarders on the mountain. I can’t wait. And look at this dude – this is so hard core – sleeping overnight in probably sub-zero temps to be “FIRST!” Sick, bro. (Yeah, I reserve the right to say “sick, bro” on my blog when I’m talking about skiing.)
