My friends Scott and Liz (and several hundred friends and co-conspiritors) put our a ‘fake’ edition of the New York Times yesterday. It’s one of those mega-stunts that gets all over TV and the Internet. They got meme’d. I’m psyched to see such an awesome, underground, progressive message breaking into the mainstream news cycle.

Copies of the paper are already selling on eBay for almost $100.

I’m going to gather a group of folks to get down to DC for the historic inauguration of our 44th President. January 20, 2009 will be a great day! Out with the old and in with the new, says I.

Destination DC has a cool site up to help mitigate what will certainly be one big ol’ crowd of gawkers (via Intelligent Travel). I’m ready to brave the madness myself. And I’ll bring a set of binoculars, too.

I can hardly express how overjoyed I am today. How relieved. How hopeful. To finally shrug off the nightmare of the last eight years. To finally let go of the anger. It brought me to tears last night. Heavy, primal tears. I finally believe in America again. Thank God. I finally have my hope restored. This is something I will talk about for the rest of my life. My grandkids will hear about it in fine detail.

Boy, we have a lot of work to do, though. That much is clear. Let’s get up and do it!

As an additional aside, even though I keep posting about it, I do still hate politics. I just can’t seem to give them up during a presidential campaign season. *sigh*

Our good friends Cameron and Lauren are working on a new documentary film project called The Delegates. They will be traveling to Denver for the Democratic Convention later this month with several different party members and explore the people and process behind the American party nominating system. With an historic convention this year, and I’m excited to see how the project turns out. Here’s a short clip they recently posted to the film’s blog:

At the end of August, Lauren and I are flying to Denver to film the Democratic National Convention, an event that will surely be a significant moment in American history. We’re going there to make a new documentary about the people chosen to represent the Democratic voters, THE DELEGATES.

Our film will accompany four delegates, with diverse hometowns, backgrounds, and interests, as they take part in the hype and hope of the Convention. Along the way, the delegates will illustrate the personal side of the democratic process, and share what it is like for ordinary Americans to take part in this extraordinary event. The film will follow the delegates from the moment they arrive at the airport, to the hectic scene on the convention floor, around Denver and finally to Barack Obama’s historic acceptance speech at Mile High Stadium.

We’re working on this film with our friends from DoubleSpeak Media who took me to New Hampshire to cover the primary for The Huffington Post. Now, we’re putting together a bigger team so that we can cover as much as we can at this historic event.

Most documentaries are kick-started with money collected through donations from family and friends. So far, we’ve never wanted to go that route. But our next film is about a subject that matters to all of you, and we need your help.

The Obama campaign has taken traditional fundraising strategies and turned them upside-down: building momentum by bringing their appeal directly to small donors. Following in those footsteps, we’re asking for your contribution to help make THE DELEGATES a worthy document of a pivotal moment in American history.

Yes, I’m evangelizing for the guy. Hell yes I am. Why? Because I am so sick and tired of the American government. I’m so disillusioned. I have been so utterly angry for the last decade. So angry at the complacency. The absolute disregard for democracy, for human dignity for the goddamn rights of not only American citizens but the rights of all humans. I feel like we’ve been abused, thrashed about in this hellish nightmare of a Bush administration. It’s been so bad for me, for the last 10 years I’ve been calling myself an anarchist rather than give one ounce of my energy to those f*ing criminals. Finally, I see the light at the end of the tunnel. Finally, I feel like we might make a comeback. Finally, I think this country can pull itself together.

Barack Obama is no savior. He’s just a guy. But that guy embodies the one thing I have been aching for: hope.

Pennsylvania’s the next battle ground state, and Lord knows I’m voting for a guy who jumps from fiery helicopters on his skateboard while holding nunchucks!
